still lagged

So Teddy's on an 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. schedule. This should make getting to playgroup tomorrow. . .interesting.

Got a call from the library today about the valentine's day thank you luncheon for volunteers. It has been rescheduled due to anticipated crappy weather to the 21st, but still on a Wednesday at noon thirty. She wanted to know if I expected to come. I asked if I could bring Teddy. She said no. I said, then I probably won't be there. Long pause. Well, she said, we decided it was going to be adults only. I said, hey, I'm not asking you to change it. I'm just telling you the reality of my life: I don't have child care in the middle of the day on a Wednesday, unless by some miracle my mother-in-law happens to visit and believe me, I'll call and let you know if that happens. I think she actually felt bad, possibly because I came in on a Saturday a few weeks back so she could go to her grandson's b-day party.

I find this all very entertaining. I don't mind missing the luncheon at all, altho if I could/can go, I would enjoy it. I just am not motivated to move heaven and earth to find child care. It'd have to be someone new, because current child care works elsewhere during the middle of the day. I'd have to get Teddy used to that person. Etc. Not worth it.

Speaking of child care, her (ex-)boyfriend died unexpectedly recently. She's listed in the obit as girlfriend, but they broke up over a year ago. She's still very close to his family and has basically been completely wiped out by this. He died at home; obit said "died unexpectedly", no cause given. Having never had an (ex-)boyfriend die, I can only imagine what she's going through. I do remember the impact of my cousin's murder on his family, and to a much lesser degree on me (we'd just recently gotten back in touch). I'm not sure what to do about child care now, because I cannot imagine that she's going to be particularly reliable (and I certainly wouldn't blame her!) for months if not years. She's like family (granddaughter of old friend of R.'s, plus as a person we really like her a lot, and so does Teddy), so it's more a matter of finding additional than of ending the relationship. *sigh* This is _so_ reminiscent of the transition from initial child care to second child care. I just don't want to go through this again.

Third episode of Dresden Files was about a lycanthrope. It was good that they broke that person-pretending-to-be-someone-else thing (first episode someone wearing victim's skin; second episode was someone using Egyptian magic to jump from one body to the next) BUT we're now three in a row for shape-shifting. Hopefully they'll branch out at some point.
