What is up with these bizarre journal entries about NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo is a web thing:

The goal is to produce a 50K first draft of a novel during the calendar month of November, with no more than one week in October in preparation. At least one friend of mine has attempted this in the past, and another blog I read reminded me it was November partway through the month. Because my life has been kinda stressful, and I was obsessing unproductively, I decided I needed a Big Project to distract me. Hey! It's November.

I'm writing a science fiction novel, largely because I wanted a genre I read and enjoy and have a large number of things I want to do someday within the genre. The particular subgenre is the woman-kidnapped-from-earth-falls-in-love-with-hot-alien-antics-ensue (McCaffrey's _Restoree_ is one of the most famous instances). I disapprove of the versions in which the hero kidnaps the heroine (tacky). Because I'm me, this turned into a story about attachment difficulties, missed cues and communication problems. I just wrapped chapter 12, which is what I've been aiming for from the beginning (the soft-core porn chapter in which the romantic leads get it on).

Once it's done, I'll take 1-2 months off, and then go find NaNoEdMo (seriously!) or some similar thing to attempt to turn it into something real. At that point, I'll be actively searching for readers. Right now, readers interested in following what I spend all my time thinking about these days (yes, Virginia, novel writing is an effective distraction from politics) can do so at:
