I _really_ didn't read Elizabeth Marshall Thomas' _The Old Way_. I have earlier blogged about her ridiculous remarks on homosexuality, and the most rudimentary sampling suggested this kind of knee-jerk, conservative, baseless bloviating pervaded the book. Three people at book group did read the book; their reviews ran 2 or 3 out of 5 stars, which is somewhat unfavorable (the group really loathed Perrotta's _Leftovers_, which got a bunch of 1s. While I didn't like the book and I don't think I finished it -- I disliked everyone in it -- I actually thought that was a really well constructed and executed book).
And that's about all that I'm going to say on the subject, except for this:
If you read this book, and are tempted to defend it, don't do it around me. Go hate-tweet me somewhere else and say how stupid I am, or hate-blog about me in more detail. I promise not to look.
